How much protein does a serving of Greek yogurt have?

Greek yogurt is creamy and rich, but it is also worth highlighting that it is an excellent source of protein. But to the question, how much protein does a serving actually have? The answer is that it depends on several factors, such as the type of yogurt (whole, low-fat, or non-fat), the portion size, and the brand.

Nevertheless, in general, for every 100 grams of Greek yogurt, you can find between 6 and 12 grams of protein. Non-fat yogurts tend to have a higher protein content, while whole milk yogurts usually fall in the lower range.

For a more common serving, such as a single 150-gram container, the protein content can vary between 10 and 18 grams, depending on the product. For example, some brands like Kirkland offer up to 25 grams of protein per cup (250 g), while others like Apis Life have 18 grams in 150g.

Unlike traditional yogurt, Greek yogurt undergoes a straining process that removes whey and concentrates nutrients, especially protein. This is why Greek yogurt has nearly double the protein of regular yogurt, which typically provides only 3 to 5 grams per 100g.

In addition to providing high-quality protein—that is, protein containing all essential amino acids—this type of yogurt is very easy to digest and helps maintain satiety, an active metabolism, and muscle mass. It also supports recovery after exercise, improves gut health thanks to its natural probiotics, and can be easily incorporated into various meals, from breakfasts to healthy snacks. Its nutritional profile makes it a valuable ally for both athletes and those seeking a balanced and complete diet.
