Recipes with filo pastry to surprise at meals
Baklava
- Ingredients. Kanaki or JR filo pastry, walnuts (or a mix of walnuts, almonds and pistachios), butter, sugar, honey, cinnamon, water and lemon juice.
- Preparation. To make baklava, alternate layers of filo pastry and chopped walnuts mixed with cinnamon and sugar, sprinkling each layer with melted butter. Bake until golden and then pour a syrup made from honey, water and lemon juice over the hot baklava.
Spanakopita (Greek spinach pie)
- Ingredients. Kanaki or JR filo pastry, spinach, onion, garlic, feta cheese, eggs, dill, parsley and butter.
- Preparation. Mix cooked and drained spinach with sautéed onion, garlic, feta cheese, eggs and herbs. Then place the mixture between layers of filo pastry, brushing each layer with melted butter, and bake until the pie is golden and crispy.
Spring rolls
- Ingredients. Kanaki or JR filo pastry, minced meat (chicken, pork or beef), cabbage, carrots, onion, garlic, soy sauce and olive oil.
- Preparation. To make the spring rolls, sauté the minced meat with vegetables and seasonings. Then place the mixture in the filo pastry and wrap it in the shape of rolls. Bake or fry until golden.
Apple pie with filo pastry
- Ingredients. Filo pastry, apples, sugar, cinnamon, butter, walnuts (optional) and raisins (optional).
- Preparation. The first thing to do is mix the chopped apples with sugar and cinnamon. Place the mixture between layers of filo pastry, sprinkling each layer with melted butter. Finally, bake until the pie is golden.
Cheese triangles (tiropita)
- Ingredients. Kanaki or JR filo pastry, Meteora feta cheese, ricotta, eggs and butter.
- Preparation. Mix the feta cheese and ricotta with beaten eggs. Cut the filo pastry into strips, place a spoonful of the cheese mixture on one end and fold into a triangle. To finish, brush the dough with butter and bake until golden.
Turkish Börek
- Ingredients. JR or Kanaki filo pastry, spinach, Meteora feta cheese, minced meat (optional), onion, garlic, Olympus yogurt, eggs and olive oil.
- Preparation. Sauté the minced meat with onion and garlic and mix spinach with feta cheese and eggs. Once we have it, we have to mix between layers of filo pastry sprinkling each layer with a mixture of yogurt and olive oil. To finish bake until golden.
Apple Strudel
- Ingredients. JR or Kanaki filo pastry, apples, sugar, cinnamon, raisins, breadcrumbs, butter and walnuts (optional).
- Preparation. Mix the apples with sugar, cinnamon, raisins and walnuts. Put the mixture on the filo pastry recipe sprinkled with breadcrumbs and roll up. To get the golden color when baking, brush the dough with butter.
Filo pastry baskets with various fillings
- Ingredients. JR or Kanaki filo pastry, various types of fillings (cheese and spinach, sautéed mushrooms, curry chicken, etc.) and butter.
- Preparation. Cut the filo pastry into squares and place in muffin tins to form baskets. Fill with the desired mixture and bake until the filo pastry baskets are golden and crispy.
