SPECIAL COCKTAIL-MAKING EVENT TOGETHER WITH SAL MALDON

What a day we had the other day together with Sal Maldon®, enjoying a real cocktail competition with the future chefs and bartenders of the sector. This event is held every year at the Escuela Superior de Hostelería de Barcelona. An unforgettable day that we will now explain in detail.

Last April 9th, an exceptional event was held at the Escuela Superior de Hostaleria de Barcelona (ESHOB), where mixology was elevated to an artistic expression thanks to the emerging talent of cocktail and cooking students. Codina Foods, as official importer of Sal Maldon, had the pleasure of sponsoring this contest, in collaboration with other renowned brands such as Fever-Tree, demonstrating once again its commitment to the promotion of gastronomic excellence and innovation in the world of cocktails.

This competition, already consolidated as an unmissable event for aspirants, was attended by 9 highly qualified ESHOB students. Each of them had the opportunity to demonstrate that cocktail creation is much more than just mixing drinks: it is an art that requires talent, training and a great deal of creativity. These young talents faced the challenge of combining ingredients in a unique and original way, always looking to surprise the jury and the audience with innovative and delicious proposals. The introduction of the new Chile, Himalayan and Kalahari salts from the Sal Maldon range in the cocktails was a success.

The event began with a brief introduction from the sponsors, with Sal Maldon highlighting the importance of high quality ingredients to give a distinctive and unique touch. Fever-Tree, for its part, contributed its well-known and prestigious range of tonics, essential for the creation of balanced cocktails with a differential touch. The presence of “Cooperativa de Gandesa”, “Nykteri’s cocktail bar” and “Ofelia Otalvano” should also be highlighted.

The students, guided by their teachers and mentors at ESHOB, worked in the weeks leading up to the competition to perfect their recipes and techniques. During the event, each had to prepare and present their signature cocktail, explaining the concept behind their creation and how each ingredient contributed to the final profile of the drink.

The competition was intense, as the participants showed impressive talent, from mastering classic techniques to incorporating more innovative methods such as vacuum infusion or the use of liquid nitrogen. In addition, creativity was the star of the day, with cocktails ranging from spherifications of flavours to elaborate garnishes that transformed each presentation into a true work of art.

The jury, made up of recognised experts in the world of cocktails, as well as representatives from Codina Foods, Sal Maldon, Fever-Tree, Cooperativa de Gandesa, Nykteri’s cocktail bar and Ofelia Otalvano, had the difficult task of evaluating the cocktails based on criteria such as originality, taste, presentation and the technical skill demonstrated. The deliberations were intense, reflecting the high level of the competitors and the quality of their creations.

At the end of the draw, prizes were awarded to the three winners. The students from the Escuela Superior de Hostelería de Barcelona not only met the criteria, but exceeded them, offering cocktails that were exceptional in every aspect. These promising young people received awards that included for first place: Gift card for the restaurant “Fermín Puig” + cocktail set + batch of cocktail products. Second and third place: Lot of Maldon products with the latest novelties.

The success of the cocktail competition at ESHOB this year not only demonstrated the emerging talent within the school, but also reaffirmed the importance of events like this to foster innovation and excellence in the hospitality industry. Codina Foods, Sal Maldon, Fever-Tree, Cooperativa de Gandesa, Nykteri’s cocktail bar and Ofelia Otalvano as sponsors, expressed their satisfaction and continued commitment to the education and development of future generations of professionals in the sector, looking forward to the next event where talent, training and creativity will once again be the protagonists.
